About Ken Hunt
I am a writer and publisher based in Toronto, Canada. I write a regular column called “The Big Idea” in Report on Business Magazine, published by the Globe & Mail. This is my most recent column. My non-fiction writing has appeared in Toronto Life, TQ, Quill & Quire, University Report Card, and Report on Small Business. My fiction has been published in Prairie Fire, The New Quarterly, the Harpweaver and a few others.
As of April 2009, myself and a couple of partners took over the terrific city blog Torontoist.

Before becoming a writer, I was a software developer and entrepreneur for a decade.
Here are a few links to pieces that I’ve written:
- “Welcome to the Radiohead Economy” - One of my first “Big Idea” columns, this piece was a finalist for a National Magazine Award in the category Best Short Feature.
- “Don’t Fear the Pirates” - This historical overview of copyright piracy, originally written for TQ magazine, has been reproduced all over the Internet. Not that that bothers me.
- “Teaching the iGeneration” - The cover story for the Globe & Mail’s University Report Card 2007.
About the name “Lively Thought”
“The most lively thought is still inferior to the dullest sensation.” David Hume, Of the Origin of Ideas
Why “A Blog of Ideas”?
Good point. That is pretty generic. I just thought it sounded a little better than “stuff that caught my hamster-like attention for a moment.”
