It would make perfect sense to me that Coupland was out ahead of everyone else in describing this sort of thing.

I believe that Douglas Coupland described this phenomenon -- one with which I am intimately familiar -- as "option paralysis" ... the tendency, when given unlimited choices, to make none.

When were ordinary Americans allowed to vote for the first time? In the beginning it was only the Electoral College.

It's now my goal to eat really slowly while thinking a lot about my food. The upside is that this leaves less time for exercise, which I really hate.

On the subject of "slow food," another study was released earlier this week that suggested that "people who devour their meals quickly and eat until full are three times more likely to become overweight."

Curiously, the study comes out of Japan, birthplace of a champion speed eater, the astonishingly slim Takeru Kobayashi. :-)

Thanks for the comment Jeni. For one thing, it lead me to your blog, Newsbite, which looks great!

Funny that you link to the London Free Press. Before going to school in London, I often wondered if illiterate people could put out a newspaper. The "Freeps" showed me it was possible!

This post made me consider something I'd never thought of before, namely, how those are illiterate go about voting. Google led me to this, which answered most of my questions: http://www.lfpress.com/perl-bin/publish.cgi?x=articles&p=245255&s=fightingwords.
